Holiday in Turkey

Türkiye is one of the most touristic countries in the world with more than 50 millions of visitors in a year. It is known as a place of interest which offers several different types of touristic activities such as cultural heritage tourism, rural tourism, eco tourism, mountain tourism, urban tourism, beach tourism and business tourism.

On the Aegean and the Mediterranean coastline, there are hundreds of beaches in which the blue skies and the golden sands meet the turquoise sea. While it is possible to find hotels with various standards in these beach resorts, many travellers also go camping in paradise-like bays where they can also find shade within grooves. The cities such as Fethiye, Çeşme, Marmaris, Antalya, Bodrum, Side, Alanya, Kemer, Ayvalık, Kuşadası, Kaş are the most popular summer resorts of the country.

But being in nature is not all about swimming and sunbathing in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Aegean and the Mediterranean seas. One can discover many distinctive plateaus in the north; ski on the Mount Uludağ in Bursa, the Mount Erciyes in Kayseri, and the Mount Palandöken in Erzurum; stroll through the walking routes in the forests of the southern coastline (the best examples are the Lycian Way and the Carian Way); see the alien-like formations (that are called fairy chimneys) inside the valleys of Cappadocia.

One can also do sight-seeing in cities that offer a lot just on foot as Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Bursa, Ankara, Eskişehir, Kars etc.  The first is the biggest city in Türkiye with a population of 16 million people and it served as the capital for three different empires in history (the Roman, the Byzantine and the Ottoman) and the other cities have played an important part throughout the whole history of Asia Minor. Several great monuments such as Hagia Sophia, the Topkapı Palace, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, the Clock Tower of Izmir, the Historical Elevator of Izmir, the Green Mosque of Bursa, the Ankara Castle are welcoming thousands of visitors every year.

Having said all of that, the most popular touristic activity of Türkiye is the cultural heritage tourism. Also known as “the Cradle of Civilizations”, Asia Minor (the peninsula where the country is located) has housed several empires, kingdoms, sultanates and city-states and republics since the early beginnings of human history. Starting from ancient Roman cities and ruins, the country offers Neolithic sanctuaries and settlements, some Bronze Age monuments and tombs, greco-roman temples, Byzantines churches, Seljukian caravanserais and Islamic schools and Ottoman mosques, schools, baths, mausoleums.

In conclusion, no one can deny the fact that Türkiye is definitely worth a while and there is something to do and see in every corner of the country. It has been one of the most popular destinations of the travellers of the world since antiquity and as long as it offers these beauties and activities, it will always be so.
